French Brothers Insulation
A third generation of French family Insulation Engineers
Jon, Jim and Andy French joined their father, uncle and great uncle at the Leicester branch of Kitsons Insulation
when they left school in the mid 1970's. They were following family tradition as their grandfather, George French,
had also worked for the company from 1918 (having been "set on" by his uncle) until his death in 1969.
George had moved his family from their home in London during WWII to supervise the new Leicester branch of the
company, as "lagging" was a reserved occupation during the war. George's younger brother, Len, served
in the Royal Navy, and returned to work for Kitsons after the war, along with two new members of the family, Ron
and his younger brother, Frank. Both Ron and Frank completed their National Service (in the Navy and Army respectively)
before going back to Kitsons and eventually becoming supervisors.
Ron's three sons, Jon, Jim and Andy, served full apprenticeships and were working for the company when it was announced
in 1984 that Leicester Kitsons was to close. The brothers took the opportunity to use their accumlated experience
and formed a partnership, which has been going from strength to strength ever since. |
